Overview
This presentation will discuss the findings from an ongoing research project at the University at Buffalo. The objective of this NIST-funded project is to improve the seismic performance and resilience of unreinforced masonry buildings by developing a framework for the design of reliable and cost-effective retrofit methodologies suitable for these structures. Such buildings are known to be vulnerable to earthquakes, but they often house residences and critical infrastructure, including schools and fire departments. Hence, this research project addresses an urgent national need, as such vulnerable buildings can be found in downtown areas of cities throughout the US, including areas of high seismic risk.

The presentation will focus on the recent experiments carried out at the Structural and Earthquake Engineering Laboratory (SEESL) at UB, which were highlighted by the shake-table tests of a full-scale one-story building.

Before the presentation, all attendees will be welcome to join a tour of SEESL, where a full-scale residential building consisting of a wood frame and brick veneer has been constructed and will be tested a week later.
